My name is Susan. I’m a mom, a cook, and a traveler.

I’ve been cooking professionally since the early 90’s when I abandoned the corporate world to open a coffeehouse, and now I manage the bakery and lunch spot at my family’s orchard.  My most challenging (and rewarding) job has been MOM to our three boys, a position I’ve held since April of 2000.  For the past 5 years I’ve been making an annual pilgrimage to Italy and just can’t get enough of that beautiful country.

For the last decade or so I’ve been writing the “Lost Acres Orchard News” – a little weekly email informational about the happenings at the orchard.  Sometimes I tend to ramble, get off topic, or get too opinionated, so “La Cucina Frutteto”, or The Orchard Kitchen has been born.   Here rambling will flourish, topics will be random, and food and photos will be prolific.

Thanks for following along….I’d love to hear your comments.  And while I’m no certified chef or official travel agent, I do enjoy fielding questions about food and Italy. Be warned, however, that I’m pretty passionate about that stuff, and most answers require in depth discussions over a cup, or two, of good coffee.
